Are your classes suitable for me?
This class is for mums and dads who simply want to learn how to take beautiful photos of their family. No need to find childcare, bring baby along. My students tend to be at a variety of levels. Some are complete beginners (“how do you switch it on?”). Others are keen photographers but lack the confidence to use anything other than the AUTO setting. Others get some good results but don’t really understand how they got there, and are keen to understand how their photos are made. If you are confused by your camera or feel that you’re not getting the results you had hoped for, you’re not alone…and I can help!
Can I really bring my baby?
Yes! All babies up to walking stage are very welcome. The class content is really aimed at babies rather than toddlers. If you have an older child please check with me before booking so I can make sure that the particular class/venue is suitable. For parents with older children I would recommend our half-day classes.
How is the class structured?
The bring your baby sessions are mainly practical. Because I appreciate it is often difficult to concentrate on theory when you have your baby with you, I provide you with supplementary video training to watch before and in-between sessions. These are easy-to-follow 5-10min clips which can be easily viewed on your phone, tablet or computer. Once you have absorbed the theory at home at your leisure, this leaves the class sessions free for lots of relaxed practice and experimenting! We will be taking lots of photos of the babies in the session, both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting. I will set a simple assignment for you to complete at home after each class, and I will personally review the photos you take for this assignment.
Have previous students enjoyed the course?
Here is just a small selection of comments I’ve received:
“I thoroughly recommend this course to any parent who wants to take better photos of their children. Claire is an excellent teacher and was brilliant at offering tips to help me. Thanks so much, I had a great time and my photos already show such an improvement!”
– Hannah Slater
“This course was brilliant, I did it last month and have learnt so much. I highly recommend it!”
– Nicola Rathbone
“Everything was super professional. The training videos were excellent, the little booklets we were given were fab and the homework assignments were vital to what I learnt. I can see a big improvement in my pictures already. I can thoroughly recommend this course – I loved it! ”
– Kirsty Stone
“Absolutely loved it. Extremely professional yet friendly and approachable. Course material and videos are really impressive and helped me understand things I’ve read in the past but failed to really grasp. The only downside is that our course has finished. Massively enjoyed the last three weeks.”
– Sian Whiteley
I don’t know anything about photography…will the course be too fast for me?
You don’t need to know anything – we will spend some time at the start of the class going over the basic controls so you won’t feel overwhelmed, even if some of the students are more experienced. One of the reasons I only run classes for a small number of students at once is so I can give each person individual attention and assistance if you’re struggling.
How will I remember everything I learn?
You will have continued access to the video training after the course is finished, so you can refresh your memory at any point afterwards. I will provide you with course notes to download as well. If you miss anything important because you need to duck out with your baby for a while, I will make sure you get the information, either in class notes or a follow-up phone call afterwards. As a mother of two, I know that sometimes it’s difficult to concentrate when you have your baby with you, don’t worry we will make sure that everything is covered!
Is my camera suitable?
This class is designed for DSLR and Compact System Camera (CSC) users. If you’re unsure what type of camera you have, this should clarify things. If you have a compact camera which has manual settings then this may be suitable too, but it’s a good idea to check with me which make and model you have before booking and I will let you know if it is suitable.
Can I borrow a camera?
I have a very limited number of DSLRs available on a first-come-first-served basis to borrow free of charge for the sessions. So if you’re thinking of buying a camera but don’t have one to bring along, please let me know.
I want to buy a camera before the course – which one should I buy?
